The Department of General Services (DGS) serves as business manager for the state of California.

DGS serves the public by providing a variety of services to state agencies through procurement and acquisition solutions; real estate management and design; environmentally friendly transportation; professional printing, design and web services; administrative hearings; legal services; building standards; oversight of structural safety, fire/life safety and accessibility for the design and construction of K-12 public schools and community colleges; funding for school construction; and disability access.

Legal Support Professionals

The California Association of Legal Support Professionals (CALSPro) is a member-driven organization focusing on the continued enforcement of the due process clause of the U.S. Constitution. Formerly, the California Association of Photocopiers and Process Servers (CAPPS), the association changed its name in 2008 to better represent the diverse services the members provide to the legal community.

CALSPro believes that every party to an action must be properly notified of such actions. In order to accomplish this goal, CALSPro has defeated many service by mail Legislative bills through the efforts of our legislative advocate. Further, CALSPro has a Legislative Committee dedicated to reading all proposed bills and making corrective suggestions.

CALSPro also prides itself in offering our very own CCPS designation. CCPS stands for CALSPro Certified Process Server. Recipients of this designation have successfully passed a challenging, relevant seminar and exam.

National Association of Professional Process Servers

The National Association of Professional Process Servers (NAPPS) is a Worldwide Organization of the largest community of professional process servers and the first resource for credible information regarding the profession. Founded in 1982 in Las Vegas NV, NAPPS today has well over 2,000 members representing all 50 states, the District of Columbia, seven Canadian provinces and nearly two dozen foreign countries. It is headquartered in Portland, Oregon.

NAPPS members assure a citizen’s right to due process and access to the legal system. To this end, a NAPPS member is committed to being accountable, reliable and valuable to their legal clients, the courts, and the parties and witnesses they serve. Membership is on an individual basis, and each member is expected to adhere to high ethical standards and have a thorough understanding of the NAPPS code of conduct on which NAPPS prides itself.

About LPI

SacLPA’s parent association, Legal Professionals, Inc. (LPI), is a nonprofit mutual benefit corporation consisting of legal secretaries, paralegals, and law office support staff in the state of California. LPI offers a variety of programs and services. Among the objectives and purposes of LPI and its approximately 1,000 members and 33 local associations throughout the state of California are:

  • To unite persons engaged or interested in any phase of legal work;

  • To stimulate a high order of business and professional attainment;

  • To further knowledge of law and uphold its honor and dignity;

  • To help forward knowledge of educational and public affairs;

  • To create a high standard of ethics among members; and

  • To establish good fellowship among members and to promote the interest of legal secretaries and law office support staff.
